Our Portsmouth Pull special event for International Women's Day was the perfect way to launch the Portsmouth Pull series for 2019! Two (virtually) all women crews took on the challenge to show that women rowers can pull hard together and have a great time out on the water!

One of the teams was an all women crew made up of Oarsome Chance staff and volunteers, including Vikki our Office Manager, Sherrie Oarsome's Admin Assistant, Carly one of our boat builders and rowing instructors as well as Gill one of Oarsome Chance's volunteers. Vikki and Sherrie got the chance to leave the office and prove they've got what it takes!
Oarsome Chance friends and supporters from The Seahorse Pub and Alverbank Hotel (Sisters Inn Arms Venues) provided the female crew for the second team (Oarsome lent Joe and Obelix as cox, to ensure they had crew members who were familiar with the course). Big thanks to them for rising to the challenge.
Despite changeable conditions and some choppy waters out on Portsmouth Harbour, both teams did a fantastic job, showing resilience and determination and showing all potential female participants out there that coastal rowing is not just for the boys!
Team Oarsome set a new all-women lap record of 1 hour 46 minutes, which was a fantastic result for a team who had barely rowed before.
Fancy taking on the 10km rowing challenge? Anyone over 16 can take part, no rowing experience is necessary - check out the Portsmouth Pull website pages for all the details and info on how to enter: www.oarsomechance.org/portsmouth-pull.
