On Wednesday 12th December Oarsome Chance hosted their first ever inter-school row-off between three of our local Primary Schools.

The schools, Brockhurst Junior School, St John’s C of E Primary School and Haselworth Primary School, sent along a team of 5 girls and 5 boys who all took part in different dry-rowing challenges in the Jervis Gallery, in the grounds of St Vincent College in Gosport.

The friendly competition tested out the rowing skills some of the pupils had learned while taking part in our weekly after-school rowing club. Marley Scott, a Year 6 pupil at Haselworth, was awarded the trophies for both the 100-metre sprint (boys) and two-minute challenge (boys). The team from Haselworth also won both 1000-metre relay events (boys and mixed category).

Lily Gillard, a Year 6 pupil at St John’s C of E Primary School, won the trophy for the two-minute challenge (girls) and Shanice Crossley for Oarsome Chance was the fastest in the 100-metre sprint (girls).

All the winners received their trophies from our Principal John, as well as last year's rowing champion from Haselworth, Riley Randle.

It was a fantastic event, with lots of enthusiasm and excitement from all the competitors! We're planning for this to be the first of many similar events, so watch this space!
